You might know the difference between Whiskey, Bourbon, and Rye, but do you know enough to be certified in Bourbon? Now you can find out. The Stave & Thief Society offers the world’s only industry-recognized Bourbon certification program.
Whiskey Acres is a Stave & Thief Society Establishment Member as can hold the Certified Associate Bourbon Steward class under the direction of our Executive Bourbon Steward Trish Hayden.

What makes a bourbon a bourbon, and how it is different from other whiskies
What the different descriptors of bourbon mean
The science behind distilling and aging
Define and explain the different bourbon classifications such as Bottled in Bond, Small Batch, and Single Barrel and be able to identify bourbons belonging to each class.
Accurate bourbon history, including Kentucky’s role in its creation.
Experience a flight of bourbon, demonstrating the relationship among the products, describing their characteristics and nuances with nosing and tasting notes
Upon successful completion and passage of the on-line exam you will be certified and receive Lifetime Membership in the Stave & Thief Society as well as a lapel pin that visibly designates you as an Associate Bourbon Steward.
Class size is Limited to 20 participants. A smartphone, tablet or computer is needed to take the online exam at the end of the class.
Classes are approx. 3 hours and include 4 (1/2 oz pours) of selected bourbons as well as the Official Bourbon Steward Handbook. This course also includes a Whiskey Acres Glen Cairn glass, a private tour of the distillery and a special barrel sample straight from the source. Light snacks will also be provided.
